Family friendly cruising

Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic has been named the #1 Family Friendly Small-ship Cruise Line for four consecutive years. We have profiled two itineraries that highlight opportunities for children on board through the Gal├ípagos and Alaska.

Galápagos

Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic offers an incredible seven day expedition that has a range of options in 2014/15 for kids and families to explore animals and wildlife up close.

The experience allows guests to experience up-close encounters with unique species such as flightless cormorants, marine iguanas and domed giant tortoises. The kids programme provides the following:

  • Photo workshop with the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic certified photo instructor using smart phones and/or point and shoot cameras
  • Journals and journaling time, plus the opportunity to enter the Young Explorer Challenge to win a Lindblad-National Geographic Mini-Expedition (an all expenses paid mini expedition for them plus a parent/guardian aboard National Geographic Sea Lion)
  • Zodiac-driving lessons & "certificates of achievement"
  • Hands-on nature lessons with the naturalists who are trained to work with kids and are excellent role models
  • Hands-on science programmes: kids can learn about the onboard video microscope to view and identify undersea specimens and learn about conservation efforts in unique locations
  • Kid-friendly menu options, a scavenger hunt and a kids' pizza and movie night

Expeditions depart every Friday on the National Geographic Endeavour and every Saturday on the National Geographic Islander. Prices are from $5,490 in a category 1 cabin based on a double occupancy.
Book by 31 July 2014 and receive $500 per person air credit PLUS Galapagos charter flight for selected Aug-Dec 2014 departures.

Alaska

Alaska's wild places bring out the kid in everyone, giving parents and children the rare opportunity to be together - sharing shipboard life, adventures, knowledge and creating a collective family memory.

There are a range of daily activities to share, including waking up to watch the humpback whales feeding near the ship, expedition landing craft cruises past crashing glaciers, hiking among towering trees, and sitting together as the community collectively recounts the day. As with the other itineraries, there are often kids' tables, giving kids the chance to create their own little societies.

The Alaska trip offers the following range of kids-only activities:

  • Photo workshops with a Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic certified photo instructor using smartphones or point-and-shoots
  • Hands-on science using the video microscope
  • Learning about conservation projects
  • Hands-on nature lessons with naturalists who are trained to work with kids
  • The National Park Service representative on board from Glacier Bay National Park gives kids a journal for them to write and draw in as they feel inspired throughout the voyage
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Expedition landing craft driving lessons and certificates of achievement
  • Kid friendly menus and movie nights with pizza

Expeditions depart on a range of dates from May-August in 2015. Rates are from $6,990 in a category 1 cabin based on double occupancy.

Book by 30 August 2014 and receive $350 per person air credit for selected May-June 2015 departures.
